Trauma-Sensitive Yoga: An introduction for survivors and those professionals and others who know and work with survivors of trauma to a research-based form of Yoga showing real help for brain/body healing. David will be using his training from the Trauma Center of Brookline, Massachusetts, Yoga program, headed by David Emerson, author of Trauma Recovery Through Yoga. Clinical research by the Trauma Center and Dr. Bessell van der Kolk, M.D., the world’s leading expert on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, shows healing for brain/body through brain scans of trauma survivors who practice Trauma-sensitive Yoga. These clinical studies are also showing personal feelings of increased empowerment and reconnection to the feeling body. This introduction will set the stage for the possibility of an ongoing class for trauma survivors.
Join David Walker, director of the Blue Hill Center for Yoga since 1990, and Zen Meditation Teacher and decades-long practitioner Hugh Curran of the Morgan Bay Zendo for a day-long retreat on Saturday, July 11 and August 2, 2015, from 9 am to 5 pm, at the beautiful Morgan Bay Zendo in Surry, Maine. This retreat will alternate yoga instruction geared to facilitate seated meditation with three periods of Zen meditation with instruction. Meditation practice will take place in the traditionally designed Morgan Bay Zendo. The day will come to completion with Kirtan, or sacred chanting, led by David. Practitioners will enjoy a pot-luck vegetarian meal.
